Infertility is defined as not being to get pregnant despite of having frequent unprotected sex for at least one year of married life. 10 to 15 % couples are infertile.

Infertility may be due to a single cause in either female partner or male partner or combination of factors that may prevent a pregnancy from occurring or continuing.

Overall after 12 months of frequent unprotected intercourse, about 90% of couples will become pregnant.

When to see a doctor

You may consider seeing a doctor about infertility if you and your partner have been trying regularly to conceive for at least one year. You may consider being seen earlier.

If you are women and your age 35 to 40 years.

  • You are over 40 years.
  • You had more than one miscarriage
  • You had prior cancer treatment
  • Known fertility problem like endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease ,adhesion

if you are man

  • Low sperm count or absent sperms
  • Swelling (vericocele) in scrotum
  • Prior inguinal or scrotal surgery or trauma to testicles
  • Small testicles
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Prior cancer treatment
